Sebastián Oyarzo Hernández

Sebastián Oyarzo Hernández is a prominent Mapuche Indigenous leader and activist for the rights of Two-Spirit (LGBTIQA+) individuals. With a solid academic background, including a degree in Linguistics and specialization in Indigenous Peoples, Human Rights, and International Cooperation, he has dedicated his life to the defense and promotion of Indigenous culture and rights. Sebastián is the founder and executive director of Willi KiTRAL, an Indigenous enterprise focused on revitalizing Mapuche culture in urban contexts through the production of agro-products with a strong cultural identity. He also leads the NGO Academia de la Lengua y Cultura Mapuche en Contexto Urbano (ALMaCU), which works to preserve and promote the Mapuche language and culture in urban settings. He has led various projects and established connections with international Native Nations and embassies in Chile. His experience includes coordinating the “Diploma in Civic Culture and Democracy for Indigenous Populations in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago,” a key program in the training of Indigenous leaders. Sebastián is also a YLAI Alumni 2022 and is currently developing projects focused on peacebuilding, with a special emphasis on implementing intercultural strategies for conflict resolution and promoting dialogue between communities
